Archaeology collectibles in retail WoW — the Scepter, the Raptor and every rare solve
Updated 2026-09-27 · checked against Midnight 12.1, build 12.1.0.69933
Archaeology stopped receiving new content after Battle for Azeroth, and there are no dig sites on the Shadowlands, the Dragon Isles, Khaz Algar or in Midnight. But it is still trainable, every old dig site still works, and every rare solve is still in the game. For a collector it is a finished profession: a fixed list, and a known way to each item.
How it works now
Train it from the archaeology trainers in the capitals — Harrison Jones in Stormwind, Belloc Brightblade in Orgrimmar — with the higher ranks in Legion Dalaran and in Boralus and Dazar’alor. Dig sites cover Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, Outland, Northrend, Pandaria, Draenor, the Broken Isles, Kul Tiras and Zandalar, and the skill caps at 950.
Every race has rare projects alongside its common ones. Your first rare for a race comes within your first ten solves for it; after that each solve has a small chance. Once you own every rare for a race, its dig sites appear half as often.
The mounts
- Scepter of Azj’Aqir — the Ultramarine Qiraji Battle Tank. A random Tol’vir rare. Players report anything from a handful of Tol’vir solves to several hundred.
- Fossilized Raptor — a random Fossil rare.
- Spirit of Eche’ro — not a random solve but a Legion quest from Dariness the Learned in Dalaran: 600 Bone Fragments of Eche’ro from Highmountain. The quest is one of a rotating set, open for two weeks at a time and back roughly every six months.
- Sandstone Drake — indirectly: the Tol’vir Canopic Jar solve can teach alchemists the Vial of the Sands.

The fast route for the old races
Restored Artifacts turn Pandaria and Draenor digging into fragments for the old races. Every common Pandaria or Draenor solve gives one, and each buys a crate of five to nine fragments of Dwarf, Draenei, Fossil, Night Elf, Nerubian, Orc, Tol’vir, Troll or Vrykul — from Brann Bronzebeard at the Seat of Knowledge, in Ashran, or from Dariness in Dalaran. Digging in Pandaria and buying Tol’vir or Fossil crates is a common way to farm the Scepter and the Raptor.
The checklist
Everything the game names as coming from Archaeology. Ticks are the same as on the collection pages.
