Every Music Disc

Updated 2026-10-09

Full spoilers.

There are 31 music discs, numbered 1 to 31 in the Music Collection. They do nothing in combat. They play on the jukeboxes you find along the way, three of them are the price of a Chapter 14 side quest, and all of them together are a Silver trophy.

None are in INTERmission. The whole set is in the main game, Chapters 3 to 16.

Prices are flat. Every disc from a shop or a vending machine is 50 gil. The one exception is Gold Saucer, which costs 1 Moogle Medal at the Moogle Emporium. Everything else is a gift from someone in town or a jukebox you interact with.

All 31, in collection order

Which close when

Every disc has a window in a normal run. Most of them have only one.

Eight discs get a second chance in Chapter 14, because the same shops and vending machines are back when you return to the Sector 5 Slums and Wall Market: Under the Rotting Pizza, The Oppressed, Honeybee Inn, Don of the Slums, Costa del Sol, Gold Saucer, Cait Sith’s Theme and Cosmo Canyon. If you missed any of those earlier, you are covered on the same save.

The other 23 are one-chapter discs. Once the chapter ends, the disc is gone for that run. The ones that actually catch people:

  • Let the Battles Begin! -REMAKE- (Chapter 9). The dance practice at the Honeybee Inn pays it only for a perfect ten “Great”s. You can retry practice as often as you like, but once you move on to the real performance the practice is over. Get it before you say you are ready.
  • Tifa’s Theme (Chapter 3). You have to use the Seventh Heaven jukebox after talking to Marlene; it is easy to walk past.
  • Descendant of Shinobi and Tango of Tears (Chapter 8). Both are free, both are off the main path, and neither has a shop to remind you.
  • Lurking in the Darkness (Chapter 15). A vending machine in a chapter that is mostly one long climb, and easy to pass on the way up.
  • Scarlet’s Theme (Chapter 16). The jukebox by the Combat Simulator — you will be at the simulator anyway, so check the wall beside it.
  • Barret’s Theme is at the station shop late in Chapter 3 and still there at the very start of Chapter 4, so it is the one-chapter disc with a little slack.

Chapter Select recovers all of them

After the credits, Chapter Select replays any chapter, and the select screen shows how many discs remain in each. Nothing on this page is permanently missable. If you finish a run at 27, go to the chapters with a number next to them and pick up the rest.

The trophies and the quest

  • Music Collector (Bronze): own 3 discs. You will have it in Chapter 3 if you buy The Prelude and talk to the right two people.
  • Disc Jockey (Silver): all 31.
  • The Power of Music, a Chapter 14 side quest from Betty in Wall Market, asks for Fight On!, Good Night, Until Tomorrow and Stand Up. All three are Chapter 14 discs, so you can collect them on the spot. The reward is Sharpshooter’s Companion Vol. III.

Game Notes

The disc hunt is the gentlest collectible in the game and the one most likely to be finished by accident. Chapters 8, 9 and 14 hand you more than half the set just for walking through town and spending gil you have plenty of. The pleasure is the soundtrack itself: each disc is a new arrangement of a piece from the original score, and the jukeboxes let you hear them outside the moment they were written for.

The real hazard is Chapter 9’s dance practice. Every other disc is either bought or handed over; that one asks for a perfect performance in a mini-game the story has not told you is scored, and it closes as soon as you feel ready to move on. Do the practice until you get ten out of ten.

The second-chance list is worth remembering for a different reason: it tells you where not to panic. If you rushed through Wall Market in Chapter 9, most of what you skipped is waiting for you in Chapter 14. The free gifts from townspeople are the ones without a safety net.
