Chromie Time: Cataclysm
Updated 2026-09-22 · checked against Midnight 12.1
Deathwing broke the world and rewrote it, so The Cataclysm is the only campaign that sends you back into the zones you levelled in first, as well as out to five new ones. It has the least structure of the nine, and one known trap.
How it starts
The factions start in different places:
- Alliance: Cataclysm: Onward to Adventure in the Eastern Kingdoms, from Chromie in Stormwind’s Dwarven District. It points you at the Hero’s Call Board.
- Horde: Cataclysm: Onward to Adventure in Kalimdor, from Chromie in Orgrimmar’s Valley of Honor. It points you at the Warchief’s Command Board.
The difference is only where you begin. Both boards offer the same five Cataclysm zones.
Where it takes you
The five zones Cataclysm added:
- Mount Hyjal and Vashj’ir, in either order
- Deepholm
- Uldum
- Twilight Highlands
Those five are what Loremaster of Cataclysm counts. While this is your campaign, the board lists its quests first but shows only three at a time, so the order is yours to pick.
One report puts the whole expansion at around 75 hours, the longest of any in a full chronological playthrough. That figure is for doing everything, not for levelling through it.
The Uldum trap
Uldum exists in two versions: the Cataclysm zone, and the void-corrupted version from a later expansion. If your character is phased into the later one, the Cataclysm quests there cannot be completed. That was reported in August 2024 and no fix has been posted. The usual answer is to use Zidormi to switch timelines, but we have not confirmed that it works inside Chromie Time.
Dungeons you can queue for
While you are in the campaign, the group finder offers this expansion’s dungeons. Raids and Mythic dungeons are off limits until you leave Chromie Time, and some Heroics refuse entry below a set level.

A 2023 report expected the reworked old-world dungeons (Deadmines, Blackrock Depths, Stratholme, Scholomance) in this campaign’s pool as well. Whether they are there today is unconfirmed.
What carries across your account
- Cataclysm reputations are not warband-wide. No announcement covers them.
- Loremaster of Cataclysm counts towards The Loremaster.
What this campaign puts in reach
Counting…
Counts are a floor, not a total. The expansion is not recorded for every collectible, and many source lines name a boss without a zone. "Missing" uses what you have ticked on the mounts, pets and toys pages, in this browser.
Where the sources disagree
- How far Chromie Time goes. Everyone agrees you can start a campaign up to about level 68–69. Whether you then stay scaled to 80 or are moved on at 70 is disputed: the wiki says 80, two levelling guides say 70, and there is no Blizzard patch note either way.
- Flying. The Uldum report says fast flying was unavailable in Cataclysm Chromie Time. The wiki’s riding page says flying comes at level 20 with no licence. We have not settled which is true inside the campaign.
