Every new dungeon boss we can name
Updated 2026-09-18 · checked against Beta build 1.60.1.69893
Not one boss name had been published anywhere before 17 September. The beta client holds twenty-six across five of the nine new dungeons, in the order the encounter journal lists them.
Every name below is read out of the client’s encounter table and diffed against Classic Era, not typed in by hand. When the build moves, this page moves with it.
City of Dalaran — 9 bosses
Alterac Mountains, levels 28–33. The longest new dungeon by some distance, and the only one that doubles as a vendor area.
- Arcane Anomaly
- Fel Ancient
- Mana Devourer
- Mana Elemental
- Unstable Sentinel
- Shade of the Archmage
- Lyn the Ignored
"the Ignored" is the kind of epithet that usually has a quest attached. Nothing in the client says so — flagged as a thing to look for in play, not as a finding.
- Atrexis the Grave Knight
- Mana Wraith
Six of the nine are arcane or mana-themed, which fits a city where the magic has gone wrong. Atrexis the Grave Knight and Lyn the Ignored do not.
Ruins of Lordaeron — 7 bosses
Tirisfal Glades, levels 15–20. Horde-side, with Alliance access by safe passage.
- Witherfang
- The Abandoned
Order 250, between 0 and 500 — inserted later, same reading as Highland Horror above.
- The Butcher
- Rath'mael
- Lordaeron Captain
- Viktor the Vile
- Bjork
Last in journal order. The published description says the dungeon ends on a necromancer and no encounter here is named as one, so which of these is the final boss is still a guess — we are not making it.
The published description says the dungeon ends on a necromancer. None of these is named as one, so either Rath’mael or Viktor the Vile is the likely candidate on naming convention alone — which is a guess, and we are flagging it as one.
The Hall of Thanes — 4 bosses
Beneath Ironforge, levels 13–18. Alliance-side. The lowest-level new dungeon in the game, so for a lot of players this is the first new content they will see.
- Faldrim Anvilmar
- Infurnus
- Plunder
Order 2500 — inserted between two existing encounters.
- Durgen Dirgehammer
Anvilmar is the founding dwarven line — Ironforge’s oldest name — which fits a desecrated royal burial chamber. Plunder as a boss name in a tomb full of Dark Iron intruders is doing some storytelling.
Excavation Site: Wetlands — 4 bosses
Wetlands, levels 24–29. The Explorer’s League dig. Note the name: every published account calls this one “Wetlands Dig Site”, and the client does not.
- Saltspine
The client's map name is "Excavation Site: Wetlands". Every published account calls it "Wetlands Dig Site". Both refer to the same instance; the client's name is the one likely to ship.
- Shadetooth
- Highland Horror
Journal order 1500, inserted between two encounters spaced at thousands, and its id sits 160 above its neighbours — added to the instance after the other three. Usually means an optional or mid-path encounter.
- Relic Guardian
Three beasts and a construct, consistent with the raptor sightings reported from the show floor.
Half-Pint Tavern — 2 bosses
This dungeon has not been announced. It appears in the beta client with its own map entry, new against both Classic Era and Mists Classic, and two encounters.
- Deathulus
Sources disagree: Not in any published dungeon list, and not in the client's own LFG dungeon list either — which in this build holds exactly the four instances the level-30 beta cap can reach.Real in the build: its own map row and two encounters. Two bosses is small enough to be a micro-dungeon, an event, or something that never ships. Treat as found-in-build, not as content.
- Crushfist Bloodbreaker
It is also absent from the client’s own LFG dungeon list, which in this build holds exactly four instances — the four the level-30 cap can reach. Two bosses is small enough to be a micro-dungeon, an event, or something that never ships. Treat it as found-in-build, not as content. It is one of several unannounced maps in this client; the rest are on the map list.
Sunken Temple — eight encounters that look new and are not
The same diff that produced the twenty-six above produced eight more, in the Sunken Temple — a vanilla dungeon that has been in the game since 2005.
- Atal'alarionrenumbered
Classic Era already carries this encounter twice, under ids 2814/2952. The whole Sunken Temple block is a third, renumbered journal set in the Forever client — a vanilla dungeon whose journal was rebuilt, not new content.
- Avatar of Hakkarrenumbered
- Shade of Eranikusrenumbered
- Hazzasrenumbered
- Morphazrenumbered
- Weaverrenumbered
- Dreamscytherenumbered
- Jammal'an the Prophetrenumbered
Worth one line on the dungeons hub for what it implies rather than what it is: Sunken Temple's journal was rewritten for Forever, which is consistent with Blizzard's line about every existing dungeon's drops being re-examined. That is a lead about old-dungeon rework, not a new boss list.
These are not new bosses. Classic Era already carries every one of them, twice, under two older sets of encounter ids. What Forever adds is a third, renumbered set — the dungeon’s encounter journal rebuilt rather than its content changed.
It is here rather than deleted because of what it implies and because of what it would have caused. Blizzard’s itemisation line says every existing dungeon’s drops are being re-examined; a rebuilt journal entry for a twenty-year-old dungeon is the first mechanical sign of that in the client. And a site that published these eight as “eight unannounced bosses” would have been wrong, loudly, within a day. Any dataset built from a build-to-build diff produces rows like these, and the one that matters is whether the site checks before it publishes.
Two cautions about reading this list
Journal order is not necessarily kill order. The client stores a display order for the encounter journal. It usually tracks the path through an instance and sometimes does not, particularly where a dungeon has optional bosses or branches. Where the numbering has gaps — Ruins of Lordaeron jumps 0, 250, 500, 1000 — that spacing suggests bosses inserted between others during development, which is a hint about optional or mid-path encounters rather than a route.
A named encounter is not a finished encounter. Names land in the journal early. Nothing here says anything about abilities, difficulty or loot, and we have none of those.
The other four dungeons have no encounters yet
Blackmaw Hold, The Drowned City, Krol’dok Stronghold, Alcaz Island Prison and Shaper’s Terrace carry no encounter rows and, in most cases, no map entry either.
That is exactly what you would expect from a beta capped at level 30. The five dungeons with data are the ones at or near the cap; the missing ones start at 35 and climb. Their absence is a gate, not a cancellation.
What we still do not have
- Abilities or mechanics for any of the twenty-six.
- Loot. Blizzard’s itemisation line covers every dungeon drop being re-examined, with hundreds of new drops, and names none of them.
- Which bosses drop camping Blueprints — the dependency that Camping and Professions both block on. Item drops are server-side in Classic-lineage clients, so this may need running the four in-range dungeons and recording it by hand.
- Boss counts for the remaining four dungeons.
- Whether Half-Pint Tavern is real content.
