Professions in WoW Forever
Updated 2026-09-17 · checked against Beta build 1.60.1.69893

Where the line is. This covers the craft — recipes, levelling, which profession earns its slot. The campsite — what to place, who places it and which buffs cancel out — is Camping.
Professions in Classic were something you caught up on at sixty. Forever’s pitch is the opposite, and Blizzard put it in one line at the panel: “You will feel the impact of your profession choice even at low level.”
Over 600 new recipes, spread across professions and level ranges rather than stacked at the top, with many existing recipes reworked for clarity at low levels.
The food change, stated correctly
Most coverage is running “crafted food now gives XP”. The panel wording is narrower and it changes the advice:
almost all crafted food will give you stat boosts and xp buff when killing monsters
The bonus is experience from kills, not a flat multiplier. A quest-heavy leveller gains far less from it than the headlines suggest, and a grinder gains more. That distinction decides whether Cooking is worth a slot for how you actually play.
The size of the bonus has not been published. Neither has whether it stacks with rested experience — which matters more than usual here, because the Legacy talent Well Rested is modifying rested XP at the same time. Nobody has addressed the interaction.
No level gate has been published either. If cheap low-level food carries the same bonus to sixty, that is a different economy than if it scales.
Every profession makes three campsite objects
This is the structural change, and it is bigger than the recipe count. Every profession — gathering professions included — now has something to contribute to a group that is not an item traded in advance. Herbalism has a reason to be in your party.
First objects unlock at skill 20, from trainers or from the NPCs who introduce camping. Advanced ones come from Blueprints that drop from dungeon bosses, so part of profession progression is now content you clear rather than materials you grind.
One consequence with real teeth: the Tanning Rack is required for advanced Leatherworking recipes. A player-placed, cooldown-gated, socially-dependent world object is now a hard prerequisite for a crafting tier. That is a genuinely new dependency shape for Classic and a potential wall for anyone playing alone.
The object list lives on Campsite objects.
First Aid — the one profession anyone has actually seen
It was the only profession on the BlizzCon floor demo, so it is the only one with detail beyond a headline. From that demo:
- The profession UI is rebuilt toward the retail crafting window, without twelve expansions of clutter behind it.
- A First Aid Kit for camps, crafted from Linen Bandages and Refreshing Spring Water.
- A new Curatives category: Woolen Tourniquet cures Bleeds, Simple Poultice cures diseases, Anti-Venom carries over for poisons.
- Healing potions are craftable with First Aid. Whether Alchemy still makes them too is unknown.
- Bandages largely unchanged, though some now feed camping recipes.
And a flat contradiction worth naming: one aggregator states First Aid “returns in its WoW 1.12 form”. That cannot be true alongside three new curatives, potions and a rebuilt UI observed first-hand — and the same page undercuts itself by also claiming bandage healing was rescaled. The demo observation is first-hand. The 1.12 claim is unsourced.
The perk lists everyone is publishing, and what they actually are
Three sites are running near-identical per-profession perk tables: Mixology and a Philosopher’s Stone line for Alchemy, Belt Buckles and Repair All for Blacksmithing, five tiers of Embroidery for Tailoring, +5% health from Mining, +5% damage to Beasts and Dragonkin from Skinning, lava fishing, and so on.
Two things about that, in order of importance.
First: Blizzard has not confirmed a word of it. None of it appears in the Deep Dive recap. It comes from show-floor footage and Twitch streams. One of the three sites names its sources per perk and discloses that its data gathering is AI-assisted and may contain errors; the other two present the same material as settled fact. That divergence is itself worth knowing about.
Second: if it is right, it is a much bigger story than 600 recipes. Mixology, Belt Buckles, Embroidery, a Mining health bonus, a Skinning damage bonus — those are the Wrath-era profession perk model, imported wholesale into a vanilla-based game. That is a far larger design statement than any recipe count, and it is currently being reported as a footnote.
We are not publishing those tables as fact until we can check them.
Legacy runs both ways through professions
There is a whole Professions Legacy tree — Working Overtime for skill-up chance, Bountiful Harvest for gathering, Master Chef for cooking procs, and more on The three trees.
Going the other way, the Resourcefulness tree removes vendor reagents from class abilities, and Reagent Economy makes Tier 1 camping features cost nothing. Crafting milestones at 150 / 225 / 300 skill reportedly award a Legacy Point each, confirmed for Engineering and Blacksmithing and unverified for everything else.
What nobody knows yet
- How the 600 recipes split across professions or tiers. Only the total.
- The food XP number, whether it stacks with rested, which foods carry it, and whether there is a level cap on it.
- Which bosses drop which Blueprints. Not one has been named.
- Skill requirements for the Alchemy Lab, Tanning Rack or upgraded Campfires.
Whether 300 is still the skill cap.Settled by the beta client. The Legacy talent Dedicated Study checks whether you have “already reached 300 skill in your two current Primary Tradeskills and all three” secondaries — which confirms both the cap and the shape: two primaries, three secondaries.- Specialisations. Nothing on Armorsmith, Weaponsmith, the Leatherworking
branches or Alchemy’s masteries. Only aggregators claim Goblin and Gnomish
Engineering survive. What we can now rule out: the beta client has no
ProfessionTraitorProfTraitTreedata at all — those tables are absent from the build while carrying thousands of rows on retail. So whatever Forever does with professions, it is not the modern profession-specialisation tree. - Whether gathering professions were rebalanced. Blizzard’s one confirmed gathering change is a Legacy talent, not a profession change.
- Any ruleset or Hardcore restriction on recipes. On faction, though, a correction: this page used to warn that the Faction Banner is “a name, not evidence of faction-locking”. The client has two versions of it, one reading “others members of the Alliance” and one “the Horde”. So it is faction-specific after all — but mirrored, not restrictive. Neither side is short an object, and the warning was pointed the wrong way.
No new profession. None removed. The line-up is the Classic twelve. One live-blog line reading “600 new recipes across new professions” is a typo for “across professions” — it appears nowhere else and should not be allowed to seed a claim.
