AION 2 crafting proficiency: ranks, the level 50 wall and how to rank up
Updated 2026-10-09 · checked against Global launch (client 2.0.5.0)
Every crafting profession levels on its own proficiency bar, and the bar has
walls in it. You climb Novice 1 to 50, stop, craft a rank-up item, then
climb Professional 1 to 50 and stop again. This page covers what stops you,
what each rank-up item costs, and the one trap in the second rank-up.

The bar needs nothing at Novice 50 and at Professional 50: it simply stops
filling there until you rank up. The Professional rank is roughly nine times
the Novice one, and the steps get steep near the top — level 49 → 50 alone
costs more than levels 1 to 20 together.
Where the proficiency comes from matters less than what you craft with it:
a recipe’s success chance
climbs the further your proficiency is above the recipe, so the levels you gain
also make every older recipe cheaper.
Rank up at Novice 50
At Novice 50 each profession crafts a rank-up item. The item’s own text says it
“can be crafted only by those prepared to upgrade” to the next rank. They are
cheap and need nothing special:
The trap is the first material for the three gear crafts and Alchemy: an
Artisan’s Splendent piece. No recipe makes it. It only comes out of a
combo — a 25% chance when you successfully craft the matching Artisan’s
piece at Novice 30. And the Artisan’s piece itself asks for an Expert’s
Splendent piece, which is also combo-only, from the Expert’s recipe at
Novice 15. So the real chain for, say, Blacksmithing is:
Craft Expert’s Orichalcum Longsword
until a combo gives an Expert’s Splendent Orichalcum Longsword — about
four successes on average at 25%.
On average that is around 16 Expert’s crafts for one Artisan’s Splendent
piece, before failed attempts. Start the chain long before Professional 50.
Cooking skips the trap: the Professional Chef’s Seasoning takes ten each of
three Dragon dishes and 20 Odyle, all made by normal recipes.
Artisan and beyond
The game also carries Adept and Advanced rank-up items for every
profession, but no recipe makes them yet, and no recipe goes past Professional
50. At launch the Professional rank-up item is the end of the ladder.
Our read
Rank up at Novice 50 the day you reach it — the item costs a handful of ingots
or herbs. Start farming the Splendent combo chain in the middle of Professional,
not at the end: it is the slowest part of the climb and the only one that
depends on luck rather than proficiency.
