AION 2 Soul Binding: binding rate costs, Soul Sync odds, Philosopher's Stones and Potential
Updated 2026-10-10 · checked against Global launch (client 2.0.5.0)
Soul Binding gives a piece of gear extra lines: random stats, and sometimes a level on one of your skills. It is the second thing to do to a piece after enhancing it, and the one most players under-use, because filling it costs Soul Codex rather than Enhance Stones.
The short version:
- Binding rolls lines — one on Common gear up to five on the best Unique — and each line has a 20% chance to be a skill level instead of a stat.
- The binding rate fills in ten steps of Kina and Soul Codex, and reaching 100% unlocks an extra Manastone slot.
- Soul Sync replaces a line you dislike, using a Sync Stone and another piece of gear as material. The material’s grade sets the odds.
- Unique gear has two more steps: a Philosopher’s Stone adds a new ability, and Abyss gear can unlock its Potential for PvP bonuses.
All of it lives in the Enhancement window under Soul Binding.
What binding gives
| Grade | Lines bound | Chance a line is a skill level | Gear pieces |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 1 | 20% | 204 |
| Rare | 2 | 20% | 519 |
| Epic | 3 | 20% | 1,246 |
| Unique | 3 | 20% | 40 |
| Unique | 4 | 20% | 620 |
| Unique | 5 | 20% | 456 |
The stats come from the piece’s own list, so a weapon binds weapon stats and a pair of boots armour stats. Skill lines draw from your class’s skills — weapons, guards and rings from your actives, armour, earrings and necklaces from your passives (see the Gear hub).
Reset with Soul Codex: Reset and Kina rolls every line again; Soul Sync, below, changes one.
Filling the binding rate
Each step costs Kina and Soul Codex (Bound); ten steps take the rate to 100%, and 100% opens one more Manastone slot on the piece.
| Binding rate step | Common | Rare | Epic | Unique |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1,200 Kina + 1 | 2,500 Kina + 1 | 10,000 Kina + 3 | 30,000 Kina + 10 |
| 2 | 1,600 Kina + 1 | 3,400 Kina + 1 | 14,000 Kina + 4 | 42,000 Kina + 12 |
| 3 | 2,200 Kina + 1 | 4,600 Kina + 1 | 20,000 Kina + 4 | 59,000 Kina + 16 |
| 4 | 3,000 Kina + 1 | 6,000 Kina + 2 | 28,000 Kina + 5 | 83,000 Kina + 21 |
| 5 | 4,000 Kina + 1 | 8,000 Kina + 2 | 40,000 Kina + 6 | 117,000 Kina + 27 |
| 6 | 5,500 Kina + 1 | 11,000 Kina + 2 | 56,000 Kina + 7 | 164,000 Kina + 36 |
| 7 | 7,500 Kina + 1 | 15,000 Kina + 3 | 79,000 Kina + 9 | 230,000 Kina + 46 |
| 8 | 10,000 Kina + 1 | 20,000 Kina + 4 | 111,000 Kina + 11 | 322,000 Kina + 60 |
| 9 | 13,000 Kina + 1 | 26,000 Kina + 4 | 156,000 Kina + 13 | 451,000 Kina + 78 |
| 10 | 17,000 Kina + 1 | 34,000 Kina + 5 | 219,000 Kina + 15 | 632,000 Kina + 102 |
| All ten | 65,000 Kina + 10 | 130,500 Kina + 25 | 733,000 Kina + 77 | 2,130,000 Kina + 408 |
| Reset the binding | 15,000 Kina + 1 Reset | 45,000 Kina + 1 Reset | 150,000 Kina + 2 Reset | 300,000 Kina + 3 Reset |
"+ N" is Soul Codex (Bound); the reset row's count is Soul Codex: Reset (Bound).
A Unique piece takes about 2.1 million Kina and 408 Soul Codex to fill; a Epic one 733,000 Kina and 77. Soul Codex come from Expedition dungeons, achievements, attendance, field events and the Season Shop — the Soul Codex page lists every source.
Soul Sync: changing one line
Soul Sync keeps the binding and swaps the effect you pick. It takes a Sync Stone and a piece of gear as material, and the game’s chance depends on the material’s grade and its item level:
| Gear you sync | Common material | Rare material | Epic material | Unique material | Heroic material | Mythic material |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 100% | 100% | 100% | 100% | 100% | 100% |
| Rare | 10% | 100% | 100% | 100% | 100% | 100% |
| Epic | — | 2% | 10% | 100% | 100% | 100% |
| Unique | — | — | — | 100% | 100% | 100% |
Higher item level on the material raises the chance too: the level table gives +1% per item level the material sits above the gear you are syncing, and nothing at the same level or below. How the two tables combine is not confirmed; in practice, feed a material of the same grade or better, and of a higher item level.
Sync Stones (Unique) are Substance Morph of a Gear Change Voucher or of a spare Unique gear piece (Gear › Growth Materials). Wing enhancement will spend them too once it is in the game — see the wing guide.
Philosopher’s Stones: a new ability on Unique gear
Unique gear can take a Philosopher’s Stone once it is Soul Bound, which the stone’s own text describes as “imbuing equipment with new abilities”:
| Gear | Stone | Kina | Chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 678 Unique pieces | 2× Philosopher's Stone: Revelation (Bound) | 1,000,000 | 100% |
Philosopher’s Stone: Revelation comes from the Abyssal Forge: Ludra raid and the Season Shop, two a season for 30,000 Oath Coins each.
Potential: PvP bonuses on Abyss gear
Unique Abyss gear has a fourth step. Unlocking its Potential never fails and costs Potential Stones plus 100,000 Abyss Points per level:
Potential Stones come from Nahma’s and Dimensional Merit Chests and the Abyss, Arena and Battlefield coin shops.
Common mistakes
- Stopping short of 100%. The extra Manastone slot is the biggest single reward in the system, and it only arrives at the last step.
- Resetting a whole piece to fix one line. A reset rolls every line again; Soul Sync changes the one you choose.
- Syncing with low-grade material. On Epic gear a Rare material is a 2% chance; a Unique one is certain.
- Morphing every spare Unique piece into one thing. It can become a Sync Stone or a Transfer Stone; decide which you are shorter of.
Our read
Soul Bind every piece you plan to wear for more than a few days, fill the binding rate on the ones you will keep, and treat the Manastone slot at 100% as the goal. Sync for the skill line you want only on Unique gear — that is where the lines are most numerous and the material is easiest to match.
