Every Jecht Sphere in Final Fantasy X
Updated 2026-10-10
Full spoilers.
Jecht recorded his pilgrimage with Braska and Auron on spheres, and left them lying all over Spira. There are ten. Watching them is a little story of its own, but the real reward is Auron’s Overdrives: his Bushido techniques are unlocked by how many spheres Tidus has found.
When they appear
None of them is there until you have beaten the boss in Macalania Woods. That fight hands you the first sphere, and only from that moment do the other nine appear around Spira. Walking past their spots earlier finds nothing, so there is no point searching on the way north.
What they teach
| Spheres found | Auron learns |
|---|---|
| — | Dragon Fang (from the start) |
| 1 | Shooting Star |
| 3 | Banishing Blade |
| 10 | Tornado and the Messenger from the Past achievement |
Each technique is a button sequence entered against a timer; faster input, more damage. Banishing Blade is the one worth chasing early — three spheres is a short walk from the woods. Tornado, the all-enemies finisher, needs the full set.
All ten
| # | Area | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Macalania Woods | Given to you after the boss in the woods. Automatic |
| 2 | Macalania Woods | The woods’ south entrance, on the ground on the right where the path splits |
| 3 | Thunder Plains | Southern half, beside a lightning tower on the east side, a little north of the small alcove off the east edge |
| 4 | Moonflow | South Wharf, in plain sight on the screen with the Save Sphere |
| 5 | Mushroom Rock Road | The top of the ridge where you met Gatta and Luzzu (recorded by Auron, but it counts) |
| 6 | Mi’ihen Highroad | The very end of the Oldroad, beside the chest that held the Mars Crest |
| 7 | Luca | Stadium, the end of the right-hand locker corridor, outside the Besaid Aurochs’ door |
| 8 | S.S. Liki | The captain’s room, on the Kilika–Besaid crossing |
| 9 | Besaid Island | On the dirt to the right of the temple doors |
| 10 | Mt. Gagazet | At the Y-shaped fork on the mountain trail, the thin path north to a dead end |
The backtrack window
The cheapest time to collect almost all of them is right after the Macalania Woods boss, before you go on to Lake Macalania’s temple. The roads south are still open on foot and the ferries still run:
- Macalania Woods — the south entrance, on your way out.
- Thunder Plains — south half, by the east tower.
- Moonflow — through Guadosalam, across on the shoopuf, South Wharf.
- Mushroom Rock Road — up the ridge.
- Mi’ihen Highroad — hire a chocobo at the agency and ride to the end of the Oldroad.
- Luca — the stadium corridor.
- S.S. Liki — ferry to Kilika, then the Liki to Besaid; check the captain’s room on that leg.
- Besaid — beside the temple.
Then walk all the way back north. It is a long round trip, so wear No Encounters if you have it, or flee everything. Rikku can still steal before you run.
The window shuts at Macalania Temple. After the events there you cannot reach the south again until you have the airship. Every sphere except Besaid’s is simply waiting for you then. Gagazet’s you pass on the story route anyway.
Dark Valefor and the Besaid sphere
Once the airship is yours, a summoner stands at the gate to Besaid village with Dark Valefor, one of the International release’s Dark Aeons. The village — and the sphere beside the temple — is behind that fight, and Dark Valefor is no early-endgame boss. If you want all ten before you are ready for it, take the Besaid sphere during the backtrack window. Otherwise it waits until you can win; see the Dark Aeons guide.
Nothing else on the list is guarded.
The order that pays soonest
You learn Banishing Blade at three, so do the near ones first: Macalania’s south entrance and the Thunder Plains sphere are a few minutes from the boss, which puts you at three before you have walked further than the Moonflow.
