Every Dressphere in Final Fantasy X-2

Updated 2026-10-10

Full spoilers.

There are sixteen regular dresspheres that Yuna, Rikku and Paine all share, plus three special dresspheres, one per girl. Two of the sixteen, Festivalist and Psychic, were added in the International release and are part of the HD Remaster. Every dressphere you own is shared by the whole party, and each girl learns its abilities separately.

Only four dresspheres can be lost for good: Berserker, Trainer, Mascot and Full Throttle — Mascot possibly with a late, unconfirmed second chance in the Fiend Arena. Alchemist, Gun Mage, Lady Luck, Dark Knight and Samurai all have a second chance.

Chapter 1

Songstress. Yuna gets it back straight after the fight on Dock 3. It starts with one dance. Its real job is MP Mambo, which makes the party’s abilities free, and its dances that slow or silence a whole group.

Festivalist. Talk to Brother again on the bridge after his “Party!” line once the opening mission is over. Each girl gets a different set of festival commands: Yuna’s Geta attacks cast random elemental spells, Rikku’s Goldfish hit three times with an element, Paine’s Omens damage and inflict a status. The shared Pinwheel confuses a target, which is handy early for making enemies cast on each other or on a Gun Mage. It falls off after the first chapters.

Black Mage. Shinra hands it over after you watch the first sphere on the bridge. Bring it to the next boss, which is weak to ice. Strong against anything with a weakness, useless against anything that absorbs.

White Mage. Taken from the pedestal in the Besaid cave once the boss is down. Your first healer. Pray heals without MP. Alchemist replaces it later, but White Mage stays useful for Full-Life and Holy.

Gun Mage. Tobli gives it to you at the end of the Moonflow escort, whether or not the cargo survived. If you skip the escort entirely, he gives it in Chapter 2 with your ticket-selling prize instead. A Gun Mage learns Blue Bullets by being hit by them: Mighty Guard, White Wind and Drain Touch are the ones worth chasing. A few bullets have one source only; the area pages mark those.

Psychic. Talk to Shinra on the Celsius, open the Creature Creator and enter the Fiend Arena’s Standard Cup. Win three matches in a row and the dressphere is yours. Losing costs nothing; retry as often as you like. It can be done in Chapter 1 with captured fiends around level 7–10, though waiting until Chapter 2 is easier. Psychic Bomb hits every enemy and ignores Defense, so it is excellent early. Later, Excellence makes the wearer immune to all damage for a short while, and Time Trip freezes everyone else.

Full Throttle (Paine’s special). In Macalania Woods, talk to Tromell (the Guado with turquoise hair at the spring north-east of Lake Road) four times. He gives you Full Throttle and the Unerring Path grid. This is the earliest dressphere you can lose. Most walkthroughs say four talks in Chapter 2 still give it if you missed him in Chapter 1; one missables list treats Chapter 1 as the only chance. After Chapter 2 it is gone either way. Take it in Chapter 1.

Chapter 2

Floral Fallal (Yuna’s special). The glowing sphere halfway down the Djose Highroad during the uniform mission. Picking it up starts a fight. Required.

Machina Maw (Rikku’s special). The sphere at the water’s edge in the Bikanel Oasis mission. Required.

Alchemist. Clasko’s mission in the Calm Lands, “Clean Sweep”. You need Clasko aboard: invite him at Mushroom Rock in Chapter 1, then pick him up again on the Mi’ihen Highroad after the chocobo mission. If Chapter 2 slips past, Clean Sweep runs again in Chapter 3. It is lost only if Clasko never came aboard. The best healer in the game: learn Potion, Hi-Potion and then Mega-Potion for a party-wide heal, and Stash lets it use items you do not carry. Mix makes powerful one-off items from two ingredients.

Dark Knight. A chest in the Bevelle Underground during the Chapter 2 finale, reached through the lift puzzle. If you miss it, the chest is still there on later visits. Darkness hits every enemy hard and ignores Defense, at the cost of the user’s HP. Its status immunities (Poison, Stone, Confuse, Curse, Death) make it the safest heavy hitter all game.

Chapter 3

Samurai. A glowing orange sphere on the floor of Kilika Temple, after the room with two Daevas and just before the last stairs. Walk slowly and tap the action button. If you miss it, it waits for a later temple visit. Hits as hard as a Dark Knight with much less defense.

Lady Luck. Win the Sphere Break tournament in Luca. Lose the final and there is one more chance in Chapter 5: Shinra waits in the stadium basement for a rematch, and it is harder than the tournament final. Double EXP makes the wearer level twice as fast; rotate it round the party. Bribe buys rare items off enemies.

Berserker. Lake Macalania, “Secure the Agency!”: six fights back to back. The Al Bhed in the agency hands it over after the sixth. Chapter 3 is the only chance. It counters everything, which is strong against ordinary fiends and dangerous against magic.

Trainer. Kimahri gives it to Yuna as soon as you land on Mt. Gagazet in Chapter 3, if your earlier answers to him were right. Give the right answer both times you are asked: “You have to learn to deal with these things!” in Chapter 1, and “You have to figure this out on your own” (the middle option in his second conversation) in Chapter 2. Players disagree on whether one right answer is enough or only the Chapter 2 one counts; right both times covers every version. Wrong answers cannot be fixed on this playthrough. Each girl fights alongside a different pet: Yuna’s dog Kogoro, Rikku’s monkey Ghiki, Paine’s bird Flurry. Fun, not strong.

Chapter 5

Mascot. Buddy hands it over on the Celsius the moment every Chapter 5 location shows Episode Complete. One Episode Concluded anywhere stops it. Get Zanarkand’s episode done early: it does not return you to the Celsius, so if it is your last episode the handover may not trigger.

There may be a second route. The Fiend Arena’s Youth League Tournament is listed with Mascot as its first-win prize (unconfirmed). It opens only after winning the Grand Cup on Hard six times, so it is a long way round, but if it holds, a Concluded episode does not have to end your Mascot hopes on this file.

Mascot is the strongest dressphere in the game, but its best moves come from the Warrior: learn Sentinel and SOS Protect there first. Then Yuna gets Moogle Beam, Paine Cactling Gun, Rikku PuPu Platter, and all three can learn Ribbon as an ability.

The special dresspheres

Each special belongs to one girl and puts her into battle alone, with two support units: Floral Fallal with the Right and Left Pistils, Machina Maw with Smasher-R and Crusher-L, Full Throttle with the Dextral and Sinistral Wings. The other two girls leave the fight while it lasts.

To use one, equip a grid that has the special in it, then change into every dressphere on that girl’s grid once during the battle. The special unlocks when the last one is touched. Unerring Path has only two dressphere slots, so it is the fastest way in. Specials are boss tools: huge HP and strong attacks, but they cannot be healed by the other two.
