Guadosalam
Story mode. Written for a first playthrough and kept free of spoilers — it will not tell you what happens here, only what the game is asking of you.
Guadosalam is a breather. No fights, a handful of chests, and one long story stretch. Walk the town before you follow anyone through a door.
Look around first
Rikku explains customization as you arrive: spare items can now be spent to add abilities to empty slots on your gear. It is the most useful thing you learn here. From now on, steal from everything.
The inn is the first door in front of you and has the Save Sphere. Then sweep the town:
- Mega-Potion — chest to the right of the big red door at the back.
- Al Bhed Primer Vol. XIII and 3,000 gil — the house on the far left, the room with a pillar of tree roots in the middle. The Primer is on the floor by the pillar, the chest is behind it.
- Elixir — squeeze past the two Guado chatting by a lamp post along the western wall. The chest is in the niche behind them.
Shop for the road ahead
The shop sells Yellow armor, all with Lightning Ward. The next stretch of road is under a permanent thunderstorm and almost everything on it hits with lightning, so buy a piece or two for whoever you plan to use. Skip the shield for Tidus — there is a free one on the way.
The mansion
The big red door is where the story wants you. Before you trigger anything, go upstairs: two Hi-Potions are tucked behind the balcony. Then talk to the party in the main room and try the door on the ground floor. Sit back.
Up the hill
When the scene ends, take the highest ramp in town. Right at the top, on the left, there is a hidden chest with eight Lightning Marbles — keep them; they are customization material for lightning protection.
Inside, talk to Lulu and Wakka, then go to Yuna. Tidus’s sword picks up new abilities along the way, including Waterstrike. Check his equipment afterwards.
On your way back out, there is a second chest on the left just inside. Open it; it is a key item you will want much, much later.
Leaving
Back in town, talk to everyone. Lulu has a question for you if you talk to her twice; your answer does not change anything that matters. When you are ready, head for the guarded slope near the entrance and the party moves on.
Worth doing on a first run

Spoilers from here.
Nothing in Guadosalam is permanently missable. The town and the Farplane are open again later. Still, everything here takes two minutes, so take it now.
The town
Rikku’s customization tutorial plays on arrival. Customization is the backbone of FFX’s endgame — the materials come from steals and drops, so start stealing everything now.
The chests, in a sensible order:
- Mega-Potion — right of the mansion’s red door.
- Al Bhed Primer Vol. XIII — the far-left house, on the floor beside the tree-root pillar.
- 3,000 gil — the chest behind the pillar in the same room.
- Elixir — the niche behind two Guado chatting by a lamp post off the west ramp. It is an Elixir, and it is outside, not in the mansion.
The shop sells the Yellow armor line (Lightning Ward). Worth one or two pieces for the Thunder Plains. Do not buy Tidus a Yellow Shield — a better one, with Lightningproof, is dropped outside Rin’s agency.
Seymour’s mansion
Grab the Hi-Potion x2 behind the balcony upstairs, talk to the party, and try the lower door. Seymour shows the party Zanarkand as it was a thousand years ago and asks Yuna to marry him. She goes to the Farplane to think.
The Farplane
The ramp to the Farplane is at the top of town. At the top, before you go in, a hidden chest on the left holds Lightning Marble x8 — customization material for Lightningproof, which beats Ward on the plains.
Inside: Wakka meets Chappu, Lulu’s past with Chappu comes out, Tidus tries and fails to call up Jecht — which tells him his father is still alive. Tidus’s Brotherhood gains Strength +10%, Waterstrike and Sensor here. Waterstrike is a liability in Macalania Woods, where most fiends are water; keep a second weapon handy.
Venus Crest. The chest on the left just inside the Farplane. Open it on your way out. It is half of Lulu’s Onion Knight; the Venus Sigil is the 200-dodge prize on the Thunder Plains. You can come back for it, but there is no reason to.
Before you leave
Talk to everyone while Yuna is with Seymour. Rikku is hanging off a balcony. Talk to Lulu twice and she warns Tidus off Yuna. “Okay”, “Too late” or “You’re more my type, Lulu” each shift the hidden affection tally that picks who joins Tidus in a couple of later scenes. Nothing tangible rides on it.
Shelinda is by the guarded slope near the entrance and tells you Seymour has already left. Meet the party in front of the mansion and take the slope down to the Thunder Plains.
The full celestial weapon route for Lulu — crest, sigil, mirror — lives in the celestial weapons guide.
