100% Story Completion in Final Fantasy X-2

Updated 2026-10-10

Full spoilers.

Story Completion is the hidden percentage on your save file. At 100% you get the extra scene after the credits (the Perfect Ending) and the Sweet Perfection achievement. It is the most demanding thing in Final Fantasy X-2, because almost all of it is dialogue you either see in the right chapter or never see at all.

This page is the checklist. The area pages hold the step-by-step detail for every scene; this page tells you what kind of thing you are looking for, what closes when, and where your number should be at each chapter’s end.

How the percentage works

  • Most of it is single lines of dialogue worth 0.2% each. A scene that “counts” usually means one specific line in it counts. A few events (mission results, Episode Completes, the last battle) are worth more in one go.
  • The display rounds down. 25.8% shows as 25%. The save screen and the world map both show it; neither shows decimals.
  • Never skip a cutscene. Skipping can drop the lines inside it. Let every scene play.
  • Story Completion is per playthrough, but it carries into New Game Plus. A one-run 100% is possible only on the route this page follows.

Before you start: the four rules

  1. Give the Awesome Sphere to the Youth League at the start of Chapter 2. This is the only route that reaches 100% in one run. Choosing New Yevon caps the run just short of 100% (99.2% or 99.4%, depending on who counted).
  2. Rest in the Celsius cabin once in every chapter. Talk to the Barkeep and choose to rest. The nap the story gives you does not count. All five rests together unlock a Chapter 5 scene.
  3. Talk to everyone on the Celsius at the start of every chapter, and again after every mission. Brother, Shinra, Buddy, Paine, Rikku, the Barkeep, and any guests you have taken aboard.
  4. Visit every hotspot every chapter. An area you skip in Chapter 3 gets no CommSphere, so its Chapter 4 scenes never exist.

The scene classes that get missed

Every missable scene in the game falls into one of these groups. If you know the groups, you know what to look for in a new area.

Class What it looks like How to protect it
Optional NPC talks A named character standing to one side (Clasko, Maechen, Lucil, Tobli, Cid, Isaaru, Kimahri, Lian and Ayde). Talk to every named character, then talk again until the line repeats.
Wrong-order talks Brother after the Floating Ruins, Tobli before the Hypello, Leblanc before Shinra at the end of Chapter 4. Do the side character before the person who moves the story on.
Dialogue choices Maechen’s story, Yaibal’s request, Cid’s “bone to pick”, inviting Clasko, hiding O’aka. Take the option that keeps the conversation going or says yes. Never cut Maechen off.
Fail-able missions The Floating Ruins race, the Calli rescue timer, “Cuckoo for Chocobos!”, “Machina Mayhem!”. Save before every mission that has a timer or a score, and reload a failure.
Chains Clasko (Ch1 → Ch2 → Ranch), O’aka (Ch1 hide → Ch2 debt → Ch5), Lian and Ayde (Ch2 → Ch3 → Ch5), the Macalania musicians, Tobli’s cargo and tickets. A missed first link silently deletes every later link. Treat the first link as the deadline.
Crimson Records and spheres Treasure Spheres from Shinra on the bridge. Watch every new sphere the chapter you get it.
CommSpheres (Chapter 4) Three waves of scenes viewed from Shinra’s monitor. Watch each area until its scene loops; some need a long wait.
Episodes (Chapter 5) Each location ends Complete or Concluded. Concluded episodes lose scenes. Most are decided by earlier chapters.
Cabin rests Nothing visible. One rest per chapter, every chapter.

Chapter 1: target about 25%

Running total at the end of the chapter: about 25.0–25.2%. The opening alone is worth roughly 2% by the time you reach the Celsius.

Inside the opening (closes within minutes):

  • Talk to the moogle on Dock 2 during the Luca chase. Walking on to Dock 3 loses it, and with it the Chapter 1 Luca narration that 100% needs. This is the earliest permanent loss in the game.
  • On the Celsius, talk to Rikku, Paine, Shinra and the Barkeep before the first mission. Watch the Journey’s Start sphere. Rest in the cabin.
  • Win “Outrun the Leblanc Syndicate!” inside the time limit.
  • Back aboard, comfort Brother before talking to Shinra.

Rest of the chapter (all close when you beat the boss at Kilika Temple):

  • Besaid: the mission’s scenes play by themselves.
  • Kilika Port: Dona throws Barthello out, then talk to Dona.
  • Luca: “Behind the Scenes” (the balloons) and the moogle narration that follows. Talk to Rin in the stadium basement.
  • Mi’ihen Highroad: set foot on it once for Yuna’s memory scene.
  • Mushroom Rock Road: accept Yaibal’s request; talk to Clasko beside him; walk into the Den of Woe entrance (Ormi) and answer “Of course I do!” at the door; Lucil twice; Maechen’s whole story, uninterrupted, then shake his hand (“Of course”); invite Clasko aboard, then find him in the cabin. Watch Crimson Report 1.
  • Djose: the visit itself.
  • Moonflow: talk to Tobli before the Hypello, then run the escort.
  • Guadosalam: the Farplane gate. Thunder Plains: walk in once.
  • Macalania Woods: Bayra, Donga, Pukutak; Tromell four times; hide O’aka on the airship, then open his shop in the cabin.
  • Bikanel: the desert walk, Nhadala, “Can You Dig It?”.
  • Bevelle: arrival and Baralai. Calm Lands: arrival scene.
  • Mt. Gagazet: arrival and Kimahri. Zanarkand: Isaaru, then tell Cid “You bet I do!”.
  • Kilika: the Awesome Sphere mission plays out.

Chapter 2: target about 44.6%

Running total at the end of the chapter: about 44.6–44.8%.

  • Rest in the cabin (ask for it; the story nap does not count).
  • Give the Awesome Sphere to the Youth League (Mushroom Rock Road). The handover scenes play on landing.
  • Besaid: beat Beclem’s score in the Gunner’s Gauntlet (over 500).
  • Kilika: Dona and the townspeople. Luca: Shelinda’s interview.
  • Mi’ihen: “Cuckoo for Chocobos!” done properly — don’t fail the rodeo, reach Calli in time, then invite Calli and Clasko aboard.
  • Mushroom Rock: Nooj at the Den of Woe; Lucil and Elma. Watch Crimson Record 7.
  • Moonflow: help Tobli and sell all ten tickets.
  • Guadosalam: get turned away at the Chateau door.
  • Thunder Plains: Cid sulking (only if you said “You bet I do!”).
  • Macalania: reunite the troupe.
  • Clear O’aka’s 100,000 gil debt before Chapter 2 ends.
  • Bikanel: the Oasis mission.
  • Calm Lands: Clasko finds his calling (needs both invitations); meet Lian and Ayde at the Travel Agency.
  • Mt. Gagazet: Kimahri twice; climb the cliff above the Save Sphere instead of following the Fem-Goon.
  • Zanarkand: Isaaru and the monkeys. Start “Operation: Monkey!” — it must be finished by the end of Chapter 3.
  • Chateau Leblanc and Bevelle: required, so they look after themselves.

Chapter 3: target 59.6%

Running total at the end of the chapter: 59.6% (every count agrees here). Chapter 3 ends when you beat the boss of the Djose mission.

  • Rest in the cabin.
  • Djose first: Gippal’s scene is gone the moment Djose becomes a hotspot, which happens once both the Besaid and Kilika missions are done.
  • Visit every area. Each visit places a CommSphere for Chapter 4.
  • Luca: win the Sphere Break tournament.
  • Mi’ihen: win “Machina Mayhem!” (seven machina).
  • Mushroom Rock: Yaibal and Lucil. Moonflow: Tobli.
  • Chateau Leblanc: Logos and Ormi, Leblanc upstairs, Logos and Ormi again, Maechen (“Please, go on”, no skipping), and Crimson Record 4.
  • Thunder Plains: Cid; advise Lian and Ayde.
  • Macalania: “Secure the Agency!”, then O’aka at the agency.
  • Bikanel: Nhadala and Benzo; Marnela at Cactuar Nation.
  • Bevelle: Gippal, the underground chamber, pick up Crimson Sphere 1 and watch it.
  • Calm Lands: “Tourist Trap” and both CommSpheres. Catch a wild chocobo before the chapter ends.
  • Mt. Gagazet: “Battle Blockade” (stop Garik). Zanarkand: Isaaru and finish “Operation: Monkey!” if you have not.
  • Djose finale: when Yuna says she is all alone, keep pressing the confirm button until you hear four whistles.

Chapter 4: target 75.6%

Running total at the end of the chapter: 75.6%. Chapter 4 ends when you talk to Shinra on the bridge after the concert. Every scene below is gone after that.

  • Rest in the cabin. Paine on the deck. Crimson Records 2 and 3.
  • CommSphere Wave 1: Besaid (Wakka), Kilika (Dona), Mushroom Rock (Yaibal), Bevelle (Maroda).
  • Talk to Buddy, then Paine about the Hymn of the Fayth — before the Moonflow mission.
  • Wave 2 (it moves on once the Moonflow mission is taken, so watch it first): Besaid (“Is it time?”, then Beclem scolding the team), Kilika Temple, Luca’s Al Bhed interview, Rin’s Mi’ihen investigation (point the evidence at Rikku), Djose, Guadosalam, Thunder Plains, Macalania (the musicians and O’aka), Bikanel, the Chocobo Ranch (needs a captured chocobo), Mt. Gagazet, and the hot springs — eight of its rotating scenes count, several after long silences.
  • Moonflow: “Where’s Tobli?”.
  • The concert rehearsal (any score).
  • Wave 3: Besaid (Beclem recalled; Lulu and Wakka), Kilika (Dona’s apology; the balloon; Barthello), Mushroom Rock (Lucil; Yaibal), Moonflow (Elma), Guadosalam (Ormi), Macalania (O’aka), Zanarkand (both Isaaru scenes).
  • Thunder Plains: “Concert Clean-up”, the concert, Maechen on the bridge.
  • Leblanc in the engine room before you talk to Shinra. She gives you Crimson Sphere 5; without it the Den of Woe stays sealed and its share is gone.

Chapter 5: target 96% at the portal, 100% after the last battle

Chapter 5 has no chapter-end until the final portal, which sits after the Road to the Farplane. Everything below closes when you step through it.

On the Celsius:

  • The opening deck and bridge scenes. Watch Crimson Sphere 5.
  • Rest, then listen to Brother and the Barkeep at the bar. This is the scene the five rests unlock.
  • Buddy in the engine room.

Episodes. Aim for Episode Complete in every location. A Concluded episode loses scenes and the Mascot dressphere.

  • Zanarkand: talk to Maechen before you leave by the Save Sphere. He leaves for good otherwise.
  • Besaid, Kilika, Luca (“Follow That Moogle!” — don’t go back to the ship), Mi’ihen (Rin’s verdict, settled by earlier chapters).
  • Moonflow and Guadosalam: Tobli’s show, Tromell, the sealed room, the Guado woman, “Yevon’s Secret”.
  • Thunder Plains: “A Fallen Genius?”, then Cid on the deck and bridge.
  • Macalania: the woman at the spring, the last spring, O’aka and Wantz.
  • Mt. Gagazet: Kimahri and Garik; Lian and Ayde report.
  • Calm Lands: the Publicity showdown (over 400 points).
  • Djose: beat the Experiment once before it is fully levelled for Paine’s line, then again at full level for Rikku’s.
  • Bikanel: Cactuar Nation under siege, then the return visit.
  • Bevelle: Maroda; the Kinderguardians; Cloister 20 and Crimson Records 6 and 8; the Via Infinito down to Cloister 100 and Trema.
  • Mushroom Rock: the Youth League tournament; watch “Deathseeker”; the Den of Woe (all ten Crimson Spheres).
  • The Chocobo Ranch: the Ruin Depths and the Amazing Chocobo.

After the Road to the Farplane:

  • Leblanc in the Farplane Glen.
  • Use the Glen’s Save Sphere to go back to the Celsius: Shinra; Brother, Buddy and Cid on the deck; the cabin scene (appears around 80%); Rikku on the deck (appears at 95%, so do it last).
  • Save at the Glen and check the number: 96% going in.
  • The final battles add the last 4%.

When you are short

  • At the portal on 95%: the usual gap is the Via Infinito. Finish Cloister 100, then the Celsius scenes, then check again.
  • Rikku will not appear on the deck: you are under 95%. Everything else has to be done first.
  • A Chapter 1–4 scene is gone: it cannot come back on this playthrough. Finish anyway. Story Completion carries into New Game Plus, so a second run that picks up only the missing scenes takes you to 100%. The endings guide covers what that unlocks.

Points worth knowing

  • Cutscene skipping is the most common way to lose lines without noticing.
  • The Calm Lands campaigns are not a scene in themselves, but the Chapter 5 Calm Lands episode needs your company’s Publicity over 400.
  • The Mi’ihen verdict in Chapter 5 is fixed by what you did in Chapters 1 to 4; there is nothing to choose on the day.
  • New Yevon gets a handful of its own scenes, but never enough to make up for the Youth League ones it gives up.
