Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster · FFX walkthrough
Home
Story mode. Written for a first playthrough and kept free of spoilers — it will not tell you what happens here, only what the game is asking of you.
Home is short and full of fights, and it is the one place so far where the order you do things in matters. Read the next line before you go anywhere.
In the main corridor there is a Save Sphere beside a doorway. Do not go through that doorway until you have been everywhere else. It does not let you back.
Outside
Before you go in: search the fallen man outside for two Hi-Potions, and pick up the Al Bhed Primer on the ground on the left side of the area. Then save at the sphere to the right of the door.
Two fights follow straight away. The first has Bombs in it — kill each one before it swells up three times, or it explodes. Have Rikku steal from the guards in every fight here; it stops them healing.
Up the stairs
At the bottom of the first stairs, turn round. There is a chest half hidden in the smoke.
Go back up and through the door on the left. There is a fight inside; after it, the second Al Bhed Primer is lying on the bed. Two chests in this room are locked with puzzles:
- The left chest asks what it contains, from a grid of nine answers. Three of them are monsters and start a fight. The others are items. The Elixir in the middle of the top row is the best of them. You only get one guess.
- The right chest wants three words in Al Bhed. In order: bottom row, middle; middle row, right; middle row, middle. It is worth a sphere you will want later.
The three-way split
Below the stairs, the corridor splits three ways. The Save Sphere — and the doorway you are leaving for last — is on the left.
- Middle path: a chest of Al Bhed Potions.
- Right path: the third Al Bhed Primer, on the ground at the end. The doorway on the right there leads to a room with a fight and two more puzzle chests.
In that room, the right chest is a quiz. Answer with the third, fourth, second and first options, in that order. The left chest wants a four-digit number. It tells you each digit as two numbers and you work it out: add the first pair, subtract the second, multiply the third, add the fourth.
Through the doorway
Now go back to the Save Sphere, save, and take the doorway beside it. There is a scene and a fight. At the bottom of the stairs afterwards, there is a chest on the right and a second one tucked out of sight on the far left.
Through the next door there is a long scene. Before you move on, take the chest in the south-west corner of that room — 10,000 gil. The door after that is the way out, and this place does not come back.
Worth doing on a first run

Spoilers from here.
The Guado are raiding the Al Bhed’s hidden city for summoners, and Cid will scuttle the place himself once you are out. Home cannot be revisited. Its treasure is either in your bag when the Fahrenheit lifts off or gone.
Three of the game’s twenty-six Primers live here and nowhere else. Miss Vol. XIX, XX or XXI and Master Linguist is over for this playthrough, along with Rin’s reward for the full set (99 Underdog’s Secrets, given on the airship). Vol. XXII in Bevelle is the only other Primer with no second chance.
The point of no return
The doorway beside the Save Sphere at the three-way split in the main corridor. Through it, a scene plays, a fight starts, and the upper rooms are shut behind you. Before you take it you should have:
- Primers XIX, XX and XXI
- Al Bhed Potion x4 and x6
- The Chest of Dreams prize, the Friend Sphere, the Skill Sphere and the Special Sphere
After the doorway, three chests remain — two Key Spheres and 10,000 gil — and then the airship.
Outside
- Hi-Potion x2 — search the fallen Al Bhed.
- Al Bhed Primer Vol. XIX — on the ground on the left side of the area outside the entrance. Take it before you go in. Treat the door as the cut-off for this one.
- Save Sphere to the right of the doorway.
The forced fights
Straight inside: a Guado Guardian and three Bombs, then a Guardian and two Dual Horns. Steal the Guardians’ Hi-Potions with Rikku (or Mug) and their Auto-Potion stops. Kill Bombs one at a time — after swelling three times they self-destruct for around 1,000. Dual Horns hit hard physically; Power Break helps.
Stairs and the bedroom
- Al Bhed Potion x4 — at the foot of the first stairs, hidden in smoke. Turn round after you go down.
The door on the left at the top of the stairs is the living quarters: another Guardian and two Dual Horns, then:
-
Al Bhed Primer Vol. XX — on the bed.
-
Chest of Dreams (left chest). One guess from this grid:
Bomb Elixir Hi-Potion Mega-Potion Soft Chimera Potion Remedy Evil Eye The three fiends start a fight. Elixir is the prize worth taking.
-
Friend Sphere (right chest). Three Al Bhed words: Sorry (bottom row, middle), Wait (middle row, right), Pardon (middle row, middle). The answers are the same whatever Primers you hold. The Friend Sphere moves a character to an ally’s position on the grid — keep it for later.
The three-way split
Below the stairs the corridor forks. Left path: the Save Sphere and the doorway. Leave it.
- Middle path — Al Bhed Potion x6.
- Right path — Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXI on the ground at the end.
The doorway on the right at the end of the right path opens on a Guardian and two Chimeras. Chimeras have 9,000 HP and no elemental weakness; Magic Break and Nul spells take the edge off their magic. Then the two chests:
- Skill Sphere (right chest). “Are you Al Bhed?” — Yes (third option). “Son of the Al Bhed leader?” — Brother (fourth). “Island the Al Bhed live on?” — Bikanel Island (second). “‘Al Bhed’ in Al Bhed?” — Al Bhed (first).
- Special Sphere (left chest). Four digits, each given as a pair of numbers: first digit add, second subtract, third multiply, fourth add. Do not copy a printed code — work out the one on your screen.
Through the doorway
Back to the Save Sphere. Save, then go through. Scene, then a Guardian and two Chimeras.
- Lv. 2 Key Sphere — chest on the right at the bottom of the stairs.
- Lv. 4 Key Sphere — partly hidden on the far left of the same room.
The next door is the Summoners’ Sanctum. Rikku finally says it out loud: the Final Summoning kills the summoner. When you have control:
- 10,000 gil — chest in the south-west corner.
The door after that leads down the walkway to the Fahrenheit. Board it and Home is gone.
