Djose Highroad and Temple
Story mode. Written for a first playthrough and kept free of spoilers — it will not tell you what happens here, only what the game is asking of you.
A short road and a temple. The road is dangerous for one reason — the lizards — and the temple has more chests than it looks like it should.
Djose Highroad
The Basilisks here turn people to stone. A stoned character earns nothing from the fight, and if the whole party goes, the game is over. Carry Softs and keep Yuna in the party.
Talk to everyone on this road; most of them give you something. One Crusader comes up behind you near the first chest and only hands it over the second time you talk to him. Another gives you the Soft Ring — put it on Yuna right away. It stops her being turned to stone.
Behind a tall rock pillar on the right, past the first chest, is an Al Bhed Primer. The camera swings as you round the pillar, so walk all the way behind it. A little further on, a notch in the cliff on the left hides a chest with armour for Lulu.
If Kimahri is with you, use Lancet on a Basilisk. It teaches him an attack that turns whole groups of enemies to stone.
Djose Temple
Before you go inside, sweep the courtyard. There is a chest behind the building on the right and another on the far left past the chocobo knights.
Inside, there is a chest next to the door of the upper side room, and one in each of the two side rooms. Then go up the stairs to the trial.
The Cloister of Trials
The idea of every step: spheres power doors and platforms, and the lit recesses tell you where they go.
- Take the spheres from the recesses on both side walls and put them in the door.
- In the next room, take two of the spheres around the pedestal and put them in the recesses down the right-hand path. A light comes on above the floor.
- Push the pedestal under that light to charge its sphere, then put the charged sphere in the right-hand recess of the door. An electric field opens up beyond it.
- Put the other two spheres into the pedestal, push it into the field to make a bridge, and cross. Push the pedestal on the far side into place, then use the shimmering glyph to send the first pedestal back.
- Return the two spheres to the recesses in the antechamber. The glyph completes and a lift rises.
- Before you take the lift, touch the glyph on the left wall for the Destruction Sphere.
- In the room with five pedestals, push each one into its slot. Stairs appear, along with a new pedestal.
- Put the Destruction Sphere in the new pedestal. The wall blows open on a chest. Then go up the stairs.
Yuna comes out of the chamber with a new aeon.
The next morning
When Tidus wakes up, walk into the inn and check behind the counter — the monk blocking it last night has gone, and there is a chest there. Then go and find Yuna.
On the bridge out of the temple, two Crusaders and a monk walking back and forth all have gifts. Talk to all three before you head north.
Worth doing on a first run

Spoilers from here.
Nothing in Djose is lost when you move on. The temple, its Cloister chest and the highroad all stay open for the rest of the game. What you can do badly here is the order: walk past the gifts on the road, skip the Basilisk Lancet, or leave in the morning without looking behind the inn counter.
Djose Highroad
Basilisks are the danger. Stone Gaze petrifies one character; a petrified character gets no EXP or AP, and a fully petrified party is a game over. Yuna’s Esuna and Softs both cure it, and Ifrit is immune.
In play order:
- Phoenix Down x2 — chest on the left, north of the Save Sphere.
- Variable Steel — the Crusader who walks up behind you near the chest. Talk to him twice.
- Al Bhed Primer Vol. XI — behind the big rock pillar on the right.
- Hi-Potion — the priest walking the road.
- Soft Ring — a Crusader further north. Yuna’s armour with Stone protection; equip it immediately.
- Bright Bangle — chest in a notch in the left cliff. Lulu’s armour with Darkness protection.
- Ether and Mega-Potion — two more Crusaders before the bridge.
Lancet a Basilisk with Kimahri for Stone Breath. It is a party-wide petrify, the cheapest crowd-clear he will have for a long time, and Basilisks are good Ability Sphere farming in their own right.
Djose Temple
Lucil and the chocobo knights are in the courtyard. If Gatta survived Operation Mi’ihen, he is lying on the ground right of the entrance and has a short scene.
- Ability Sphere x4 — behind the building on the right.
- 4,000 gil — far left, past the chocobo knights.
- Ether — inside, by the door to the upper side room.
- Remedy — in the upper side room.
- Mega Phoenix — in the lower side room.
The shop has a Rune Mog for Lulu, a Hyper Ball for Wakka and armour with Defense +5%. Buy what you like; nothing in it is unique.
Isaaru and his guardians are on the stairs. Dona and Barthello are waiting when you come out of the trial.
The Cloister of Trials
The puzzle runs on charged spheres:
- Put the two wall spheres from the first room into the door.
- In the next room, take two of the three spheres around the pedestal and set them in the recesses on the right path; a light comes on.
- Push the pedestal under the light, take the charged sphere it produces and put it in the door’s right recess. The electric field beyond opens.
- Put the remaining two spheres into the pedestal, push it into the field as a bridge and cross. Push the far pedestal home, then use the shimmering glyph to send the first pedestal back.
- Put the two spheres back in the antechamber recesses to finish the glyph and raise the lift.
- Touch the glyph on the left wall for the Destruction Sphere before you take the lift.
- Push all five pedestals home in the last room; stairs and a new pedestal appear.
- The Destruction Sphere goes in the new pedestal and blows the wall open on a Magic Sphere.
The Magic Sphere is not missable — the Cloister can be solved again on any later visit. Unlike Bevelle’s, nothing here closes.
Ixion joins in the Chamber of the Fayth.
The next morning
The monk who blocked the back of the inn the night before has gone. Switch Hitter is in the chest behind the counter. Then visit Yuna’s room to the left of the Cloister door and leave.
On the bridge back to the highroad, three more gifts: Halberd for Kimahri from the Crusader on the left, Potion x10 from a second Crusader further along, and Hi-Potion x2 from the monk walking back and forth.
Coming back later
With the airship and the International content, Ixion’s dark counterpart turns up — not here, but on the Thunder Plains. That fight belongs to the Dark Aeons guide; nothing you do at Djose affects it.
